At the beginning of this year it was announced that Lomako would move 'abroad', but it was not told where, so it now turns out to be GaiaZoo.

Sadly almost 22-year old female Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Sangha was euthanised on the 13th of March. Last week she couldn't use herhind legs anymore and a medical examination showed that surgery was not an option, therefore this decision was made. The reconstruction of the Taiga aviary continues, with the construction of the new visitor area having started. Log in or sign up to view
I believe at some point they said they wanted to reopen the aiary somewhere this spring, but I think it might be delayed a few months.
Well I allready planed to go in August anyways. So it is nice. A large aviary full of water foul wadder birds and vultures ( besides parrots my favourites) I can'T miss that
The Taiga aviary has recently been reopened. It is not known exactly which bird species are in it. The following species can be seen on photos or are confirmed to be in the aviary: - Western Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus percnopterus) - Western eurasian griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus fulvus) - Asian Azure-winged magpie (Cyanopica cyanus) - European roller (Coracias garrulus) - Rock pigeon (Columba livia) - European Turtle dove (Streptopelia turtur turtur) - Wallich’s pheasant (Catreus wallichii) - Common shelduck (Tadorna tadorna) - Ruddy duck (Oxyura jamaicensis) - Baer’s pochard (Aythya baeri)
Hi. Can anyone please confirm what is the current number of katanga lions at gaiapark? Any details about them would be appreciated.
GaiaZOO doesn't have any Katanga lions. Their male is the only Somali lion (Panthera leo somaliensis) in Europe. The females are zoomix lions.
Boeti was indeed born in GaiaZOO. But he is thus a zoomix (Somali x Zoomix) lion. And also the two lionesses mentioned in that Facebook post are Zoomix lions.
Alright. Thanks for the explanation. So probably one of the two lions in the Erfurt Zoopark (ASLAM + BASTET) must also be a Zoomix. Probably Bastet. I will try to clarify this. Best!
I think you are right. Found out that Bastet (female) was born in Gdansk (Poland). And she is a katanga. Sorry for the off-topic guys.
GaiaZoo has started the demolition of the old ticket office building. This area will become part of an impressive aviary housing Eurasian eagle owls, ravens and black storks, which visitors will be able to see as they make their way to the actual zoo. GaiaZOO
They had these three together in an aviary before, but this aviary collapsed together with the Taiga aviary I believe
I am just suprised that eagle owls are mixed with anything. I only saw smal owls or larger owls mixed with other large owls
