Hi I just returned from munster and i heard from a zookeeper that the male gaur passed away. So isis species isn't correct. Munster still has 3 adult females This is what i know from what i read here isis species list (which as it turns out isn't that reliable) dortmund stil has 1,1 gaur don't know anything about age muchen has just one adult female berlin zoo has gaurs but i don't know how much Whipesnade has 1,1 and they are hoping to breed them Jardin des plantes (Paris) has 3,2 don't know about age If anyone has more up to date info please fill me in
If i read zootierliste right in obterre en thoire both have a single male and zoo munster has 3 females. They could form a new breeding group with one of those singel males. zootierliste doesn't say how many gaurs there are in berlin zoo right now. I hope they are gonna be bred enough to ensure a healthy zoo population in europe.
Terra natura stil has them at least they say so on their website. Both on the zoomap en animal description.
This is what what i found out after some research : Dortmund's 1,1 came in 2009 as year old calfs from berlin. I presume it's a breeding pair. If so they should become sexualy mature right about now. In berlin 4 gaurs were born in the last 2 years 2 in 2009 and 2 in 2010 (don't know anything about the sex) Munster has 3 adult females, but their bull recently died. Munich has just one single female. Their herd of 9 gaurs died of disease Two zoos in france Obterre and Thoire have single bulls. Jardin des Plantes have 3,2 gaurs Tallin Zoo in Estonia has 1,3 gaurs (and there is good contact between tallin an Jardin des Plantes) Terra natura in Benidorm has 5,3 gaurs Whipsnade has 1,1 gaurs they used to have a mother and son. But the mother died and they got a new female. I'm most interrested in finding out about the berlin group. They seem to be the most productive breeding wise
Dortmund received 1,1 siblings from Berlin Zoo in 2009. 0,1 was shipped to Paris Jardin des Plantes last and a young female from Paris came to breed with the young bull.
from the list you supplied, it seems there are a few extra or single bulls so hopefully Munster can replace theirs.
