The aquarium will not be appealing the judges decision to prevent the import of 18 belugas from Russia. Georgia Aquarium won’t appeal after losing battle to import beluga whales - National | Globalnews.ca
I feel like the fact that they tried to get the whales in the first place indicates that they might be desperate. I wonder what they're gonna do now?
This is unfortunate for the North American captive beluga population. The only sustainable population may be Marineland Canada, which probably will not send any more whales to the breeding consortium.
I'm convinced that Marineland might eventually have to disgorge some of their Beluga's to save money or because of a lawsuit or other goverment action or because the park somehow changes ownership and the new owner(s) decide they want to improve the park's reputation by joining the CAZA and/or AZA.
Beluga, Maris, died of heart failure. Georgia Aquarium: Beloved beluga died of heart failure | www.ajc.com
Why does it need to get out of the Beluga program? There have been 2 births so far, from the same mother. It's not rare that the first calves don't make it. Social media is full of nitwits, who aren't able to comprehend such a concept.
Off course the calves have died young. They are calves, they are young! It is not extraordinary they have died. The last one had a defect in it's bowels. It was born with it, and there was nothing to be done about it. And the mother had micro tears in her heart. So with other words, a hidden heart problem. There's no reason for GA to stop keeping beluga's, since these are problems are not caused by GA in any way.

Sea lion show and exhibit construction underway The new sea lion exhibit and show area is currently being constructed in place of the 'Georgia Explorer' area. Contruction is taking place outside of the aquarium at the corner of Baker St NW and Luckie St NW which is just outside where the exhibit is going to be.
