One would expect both these elderly elephant will be carefully managed for elderly care / end of life cycle management.

Anyone have any idea what Givskud Zoo is being after the eventual passing of both elderly cows that left are now?

Today several news for 2021 were presented. One new species will arrive; Humboldt penguin.

A large new enclosure for the penguins will be built at the location of the Bactrian camel enclosure at P1. The enclosure will be 5000 m2 and house "a large number of penguins" (quote from their website). The camels will move to the location of the temporary exhibition "Tilbage til istiden" (Back to the ice age) that will be removed. The exhibition contains animatronic ice age animals and living reindeer. Two reindeer have been put down due to health-related problems and the rest (four) will be sent to Skandinavisk dyrepark in Denmark.

The large dinosaur park will get a couple of new dinosaurs and also replacements for some of the older ones that are broken.

A new small exhibition with huge insect-models will open.

The safari shop will be extended as it's really small at the moment.

A "Sustainable development goal park" will open with information about all the SDGs.

Now only the Przewalski's horses and elephants need to be moved before that area of the park is a South America-only zone.

With that much space, I'd have liked if they netted the exhibit and kept some other birds like steamer ducks and Inca terns in there, but of course you can't have everything.

Did those grand Dome plans indicate anything about this area once wild horses and elephants are relocated elsewhere?

Not sure what you mean by dome. The masterplan mentions prairie dog, alligator, tapir, bush dog, jaguar and pudu as potential species for the American zone (besides what they alredy have). Back in 2004 penguin, prairie dog and alligator were the top priority species, but priorities could have changed since bears and spider monkeys have arrived before the prairie dogs and alligators (and they've even gotten giant otters which weren't originally part of the master plan).

OK, I do hope they change alligator into a more challenging and endangered South American crocodile species? Maybe, even have 2 species: say Orinoco crocodile (or American crocodile) and dwarf caiman?

Orinoco or American crocodile would be awesome, though I think Givskud would prefer American alligators because that's the only species that can be displayed outdoors some of the year in the Danish climate. Not saying they couldn't build a South American tropical house, but being a open-range zoo they seem to place the emphasis on exhibiting larger animals in huge open-air areas. They have never kept any species that could only be seen indoors.

Gus also arrived yesterday. Otzee has moved to the Beekse Bergen. He is going to live with other males. Examination has shown that he is infertile.

It would be good if both females Samia and Mazumba will now breed!

BTW: Female Enkeling / Inger last bred 2005, 2006, so technically she could conceive too.

Question: Was bull Gus evaluated to be fertile?

Yes, at the beginning of this year he was examined and it showed that he is fertile.

At the end of October, 3-year-old giant otter male Salvador moved from Givskud Zoo in Denmark to the São Paulo Aquarium in Brazil. He arrived well in São Paulo and is currently in quarantine. In the future he will be paired with an already present female.

In May atleast 5 Mackenzie valley wolfs (Canis lupus occidentalis) were born.

For the fourth time since August 2020 a Crested black macaque (Macaca nigra) was born in May. Givskud now has 1,4,4 crested black macaques.

In May a new pair of Nepalese red pandas (Ailurus fulgens) arrived.

Somewhere in June a Eastern bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci) was born.

For the second time in the zoo's history a Colombian brown spider monkey (Ateles hybridus) was born, this time a female was born.

Female giant otter Brazilia will soon leave for Zoo de La Palmyre. At the moment she is being trained to get used to the transport box. In Palmyre, she will be paired with a young male to become a new breeding pair.

Poor girl. She was in one of the best giant otters exhibit ans she will arrive in one of the worst. Hope all will be ok for her with a future partner.

Givskud Zoo has unfortunately had to euthanize the young male gorilla Nuru after he suffered a serious fracture in the right upper arm and elbow joint, from an unfortunate fall :(
He was only 4 years old:(

Givskud Zoo presented the new humbolt penguin exhibit! A massive 6000m2 exhibit with a 900.000L big pool. Said to be Europe's biggest of its kind.
