This country is inhabited by around 250 mammal species of only 8 orders, multiple endemic varanids, and also has a river that shares it’s name with an insect.

The new challenge is as follows (not a super difficult one).

This country has, according to "All the birds of the World", the highest number of one-country endemic bird species in the world, it is also classified as a megadiverse country, it is situated in two biogeographical realms and it was studied and described extensively by a famous explorer and naturalist.

It is neither Australia nor Madagascar, both of which have endemic reptile genera

This country is historically home to 13 Feliformia, with one of these feline’s subspecies modern range being only in this country and another being the country’s National animal despite it being regionally extinct. A deer species modern range is also found only in this country, mainly in the southern pistachio forests. Many animals that live in this country are named not after the modern country but an empire that existed before it. Good luck!
