Hooray, it's a boy: The Sumatran orangutans in Hagenbeck's zoo have had children. According to the zoo, a small orangutan boy has been living among the ape group since May 24. It was the first time in 15 years that there were young urangutans in the zoo, said Hagenbeck.

Only two of them left for Pairi Daiza and two more will join them in time, the rest will stay. I guess that's what you're talking about?

The albino fur seal got her name: Elsa. Wich comes from "elischaba" wich means "devoted to god" in Hebrew. Elsa is also a common first name in Germany, mainly because of de disney movie "Frozen".

New frog-species at Hagenbeck : Mantella laevigata. Hagenbeck is at the moment the only zoo in Germany with this species in the collection :

To bring some new hard-needed fresh blood in the European North-China leopard-population Hagenbeck has imported 2 males from the Zoo of Seoul ( South-Korea ).
One of the males will stay in Hamburg, the other will be send to a collection in Danmark :).

Do you know where the Seoul Zoo North China leopard Panthera pardus japonensis (versus Amur leopard P. p. orientalis) originated from (founding stock from China)? Which zoo in PR China?

I believe the North China leopards of Seoul Zoo were originated from Harbin Zoo. If my memories and remaining news articles(Korean) are accurate, the species were imported from Harbin around year 2005-2006, and bred sometimes as well.

Tierpark Hagenbeck reports today that on February 19, 16-year-old Walrus Raisa has passed away. Raisa arrived in Hamburg in 2015 after an exchange with Dolfinarium Harderwijk. Despite several matings with the bull Odin, she never became pregnant herself. But with the youngest addition to the group, Fiete, she had taken on a sort of aunt role.

The autopsy showed that she died of heart failure, a pathological examination also found chronic damage to the heart. Further investigations are still underway.

Walrus in Hamburg. Does anyone know if Hamburg would have held Walrus back in 1969?
