Spotted quoll as in Dasyurus maculatus? Wouldn't that be a new species for Europe.

Or is it possible they used a picture of Spotted quoll but meant Eastern quoll?

In any case, it's a great news for the zoo!

    I am certain it's a Spotted / Tiger Quoll.

They have a big link up with Australia as they are helping with the Cheetah program out there and these have come from Australia. They said earlier in the year they had 5/6 exclusive species to the UK coming this year and they were working on exhibits.

They have already put the Javan Binturongs on show, which they have 6 of. They have another to go into the Outback Aviary which opens soon, and then this looks to be the 3rd one. Given Knowsley, London and Bristol already have Eastern Quoll, I wouldn't say they would make a sing and dance over them.

Also I doubt they would use an incorrect picture, I would be very confident, these are Tiger / Spotted Quoll.

No that animal (or 3 animals as the case may be) is in the Australian Outback Aviary exhibit which they are working on and hoping to open soon. That contains Budgerigars, Zebra Finch, Diamond and Firetail Finch in the Aviary section as you walk in, then Two main exhibits with an unnamed animal, and another exhibit where the Possums which are currently off show will move to. They also have a Queensland Whistling Spider and Pygmy Monitor to go on show at some stage, but suspect that will be once the Reptile house is improved, unless vivs in the new Outback enclosure are going to be created.

Interesting, I was hoping when they said about some new species coming that they might get some more cats but this doesn't seem to be the case :-(

Remember they are not a Biaza or Eaza Zoo so any breeding programs they are in, are their own, so the chances of future species of big cats is unlikely. They have their own Cheetah breeding program which is enabling them the links they are building, which they may not get the chance to under Biaza or Eaza.

They will be getting more Tigers to go into the empty enclosure at some stage.

Sorry to correct you again, but I think Linton & Bristol are the only holders of Eastern Quoll in the UK ( unless London & Knowsley are very recent, they're not on ZTL ).

London and Knowsley are former holders, though neither has kept them for well over a century.

Sorry, for some reason, my ZTL as coming up on former holdings not current holings, must have stuck when I was looking at something else.

Lovely photo that is as well. By that image, it doesn't look like it's in the enclosure I thought it would be, which again adds the question, what will be in the double sided exhibit opposition the Gibbons near the Raccoons.

WOW! Hamerton really is awesome for rarities!

So was it the wombats that some people saw recently but weren't supposed to? I was getting a bit confused with all the different new species and various enclosures being mentioned!
