    Hey there. I'm going to Hannover Zoo in the end of October. Which animals can you see indoors, and which exhibits are open for the audience?? I would love some help, thanks. :)

    You´ll be able to see the monkeys, the apes, the hippos and other animals indoor, but in October most of the animals are shown also outside.
    The 'Yukon-Bay' for polarbears, northern fur-seals and so on is still in the building-phase.

    Can you really see the gorillas indoor? I've seen a lot of pictures of them indoor, but i've heard that you can't see them in the winter.

    I heard something on the news, about five chimps being on the loose in Hannover Zoo, and the Zoo being evacuated. Does anyone know any details about this?

    2,3 chimps climbed out of their exhibit after a branch of a tree fell in. The apes were calm and looked around the zoo. Only a girl was injured who fell to the ground. After one hour 4 of them went back in the exhibit and only one had to be brought there by the keepers. For the time the zoo was evakuated.
    It was very lucky nothing worse happend.

    In the time coming Hannover Zoo will work further on its Masterplan. An Walk-through aviary for African birds and the Elephant-bull enclosures - both indoor as outside will be enlarged. Also an area for Madagasscar and the Seychelles is part of the plan as well as a new Giraffe enclosure and a Rainforest-habitat for Drills and other African monkeys.
    In the next years all these building activities will cosst Euro 75 million !

    Yesterday, male Hippo"Max"from Opel-Zoo Kronberg arrived at the Zoo.Kronberg ahs stopped keeping hippos after the death of the female last year. Also Frankfurt and Stuttgart will stop keeping hippos-both zoos are looking for new places for their hippos, so after it, only five german zoos will have hippos....nowadays, it is to expensive to keep them....

    Only 5? Are you referring to only river hippos (and not pygmy hippos)? By my records, the German zoos which currently have hippos (of either kind) are:
    Berlin, Koln, Duisburg, Frankfurt, Zoom, Halle, Hannover, Karlsruhe, Krefeld, Opel-Kronburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Chemnitz, Hoyerswerda, and Jaderberg.

    Do any of the above NOT have hippos anymore? (besides Kronberg, and perhaps Frankfurt and Stuttgart)

    @Anyhuis.

    I've meant Nile Hippos,and they are currrently at Berlin,Hannover,Cologne,Gelsenkirchen,Frankfurt,Karlsruhe and Stuttgart.

    Frankfurt has only one female and is still looking for a new palce for here, and Stuttgart wants to stop keeping hippos alo, because there is no way to build a new hippohouse-so tehy look for a new home for their pair.So this makes five then...Kronberg wants to keep hippos again-in many years....

    By the way-Stuttgarts Pygmy Hippo"Hannibal" celebrates his 49th birthday in October...

    what is the current status of the 2025+ masterplan. Works should be well on the way on both african aviary and the showarena and this fall works should start on the Drillwald.

    Is this still happening ? Or is it postponed
