On Facebook it’s been revealed that Zoo Hannover is starting an expansion of its elephant exhibit. This includes a new indoor tropical hall and expanded outdoor yards. Zoo inside
Seems like a bit of a detraction from the "highly themed" environment Hannover's been known for... still, any expansion is welcome indeed!
Female Barbary lion (Panthera leo leo) Naima has been euthanized. Naima suffered from a severe hernia, after she was operated her condition slightly improved but then worsened again. The zoo hopes to find a new female for Basu, their male Barbary lion. Source: Instagram of Zoo Hannover (15/04/2021) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNrpgbplRRy/

In August a female Nepalese red panda (Ailurus fulgens) named Fine arrived from a zoo in Hungary, here she has been paired up with the already present male Flin. Does someone know from which zoo Fine came? The Red-legged seriemas (Cariama cristata) also had their first chick in May, this is also the first time that this species has bred in Zoo Hannover! On the 16th of May a male American wood bison (Bison bison athabascae) and on the 25th a female were born. Zoo Hannover received pairs of 3 American bird species somewhere in May; 2 Southern screamers (Chauna torquata), 2 Red-legged seriemas (Cariama cristata) and 2 American black vultures (Coragyps atratus). They can be found in enclosures behind the Zoo-Bauernhof. She reached a respectable age and had 3 calves during her lifetime with bull Kifaru: male Taco (now living at Koeln Zoo), F Saya (deceased early 2000's) and Samira (now at Flamingoland and with calf Jabali).
Yes, they did. I thought that was a mistaken decision as I consider Whipsnade very at for holding black rhino (or bring them cack on the Cassons).

Seen on my last visit: on 9th of March a male zebra "Thabo" was born the two swamp wallabys are female ("Franzi" "Sissi") And during my visit I noticed that the cattle egrets are free flying and nesting in a tree next to the boad ride. So I wondered if those birds are in any way held back to fly away in any way.
The egrets have been free-flyers for many years, even decades as far as I'm aware. They can be seen somewhere in the city probably but don't seem to have spread anywhere really.
