Hi Daniel and Dale, welcome to zoobeat

WrithedHornbill, do you really need to introduce yourself? I think you are one of the most well known and respected members on the forum.

    Hi Guys,

I just want to say hello , it's my first posting here and so I want to introduce myself.

I'm a zoofan from germany, I love animals and zoos since my earlist childhood and its my pleasure to visit every zoo and aquarium I can. My special interested are hoofed animals, especially all species of antelope, as my nickname says. Unfortunately, duikers are now very rare in zoos, we have here in germany only three diffrent species, the yellowbacked duikers ( unfortunately the only breeding female in europe died that year ),blue duikers ( only one german zoo with this species ) and red duikers, which can be seen now in now 6 german zoos. This is one of the few antelope species, which are not kept in any Us-Zoo.

Because I'm very interested in antelopes, but a lot of diffrent antelope species can not being watched in any european zoo,I made my first trip to the USA in 2002, fortunately, I could visit the Gladys Porter Zoo and I could see the Jentinkduikers and the last Hirola, which lived in a tiny, old and ugly enclosure behind the scenes.

I enjoyed my trip to the States, and my favourite zoo is, no wonder, the San Diego WAP.
Its a great zoo, and so I returned to the States in 2005 to visit this amazing place again. There are so many rare antelope species, which we don't have here in europe, Gerenuk,Soemmerings gazelle, Spekes gazelle, Bontebok, a lot of duikers, royal antelope, Suni, Bushbock,Giant Eland. So the States are my paradise . Next year, I will come back, this time, to the east coast.

Since many years, I collect zoo literature, so I have now a zooguidecollection with 3,245 diffrent zooguidebooks from all over the world.

If anybody here has any questions, please ask. I know so much german zoo( and other zoos in europe, of course), so I hope, I can answer your questions.

    Greetings from germany,

    zebraduiker

@snowleopard and Mark. Thank you ! I'm very proud to have this big zoo guidecollection, I'm collecting zooguides since 1987. My oldest guides are from Frankfurt Zoo from 1860,1862,1863,1866,and 1877.

I'm born in Frankfurt, so that zoo is my "Homezoo" and I know a lot of people in this zoo. So if anybody here has any question to this or other german zoo, please aks me, I would be very happy to answer your questions. Frankfurt zoo has shortly opened a new, huge Apehouse, called"Borgori-wald" for Gorillas, Orangs ,Bonobos and Drills. At this time, they working on the outdoor exhibits, the Gorillas,Drills and guerzas will share one huge exhibit.

I just returned from my Trip to berlin,Leipzig,Halle,Rostocka nd Schwerin. Yesterday I've visited Leipzig and I've seen the gigantig construction area of Gondwanaland. Nobody knowa sat this time, which Species will move in. Unfortunately there are no plans to import Zebraduikers and Sumatran rhinos are not realistic. Nobody at the Zoo is beliving in sumatran rhinos.I've ssen the pangolin, geat animal. The keeper sid, best time to see it active is between 1 pm and 6 pm. Shortly before 11 am, they turn on the light in the exhibit for a couple of minutes, so thats the best time to make pictures.

Hello to Daniel, Dale and zebraduiker.

Well its day 2 for me here and it really is a very impressive place!

I never thought there would be a space. Where so many people with such specialised passions would gather.

What a great collection of zoo guides zebraduiker. I also have a collection although no where near as large as your collection.

Looking forward to reading and learning more.

    Stuart
