I'm sure your'e right. It's a pretty grainy photo, taken in 1984, and doesn't show the markings in enough detail to accurately differentiate between the species. I was going more by the stag's antlers which are definitely palmate in the 1984 photo whereas an earlier photo (which is labelled axis deer) are not.....
Hi Angel and welcome to the forum I have checked my records for the time you say the photograph was taken and I think they were Fallow Deer as my records show Fallow Deer were last in the collection (on show to the public) 1985 and that Axis Deer were last in the collection (on show to the public) 1975 hope this helps.
