Thanks vogelcommando :) I love your avatar, there are lots of robins in the zoo that I volunteer at, I'd say they're probably my favorite wild bird :D

Thanks aardvark! I look forward to talking with like-minded animal lovers :D (my coworkers always cut me off and say I'm mad when I try to talk to them about animals :/)

    Thanks natel :)

I'm studying Natural History at The Open University and I'm an aspiring conservationist so I'm slowly getting round to visiting various zoos here in the U.K. :) I volunteer at one so it's awesome to have a behind-the-scenes experience of the everyday running of a zoo but most zoos have pretty high admission prices! Lots of UK members on the site and they sometimes have meetups at various zoos (they seem to be the only country of ZooChatters that does this successfully). Hopefully you can meet some of them in person one day (if the timing and finances ever work out I may even hop across the pond to join them). Until then, we hope you enjoy your interaction with us online.

If you do a meetup, I have a feeling some members may have annual passes that allow them to take in one guest each time. It is worth asking on the forum if and when you see a UK meetup listed.

Why? It is not like you are asking them to buy you an admission ticket. They already have the guest pass as part of their season pass. It would not cost them anything to have you walk in with them. Of course this is assuming that large UK zoos offer this, just as the zoos here in USA do. I have three zoo memberships and have this feature on all of mine. Anyway, if you stay active on the forum then maybe someone will offer it to you without you asking. As natel12 said, many people say hello (as you have done here) and we do not hear from them again. The key is to stay active.

I'd just feel awkward asking as I wouldn't have met them IRL. Maybe once I've gotten to know other members a bit more :D I'm definitely not planning on ditching this forum any time soon :D

I personally have had bongorob send me a ticket to Chester, have been granted free access to Birmingham and managed to get a free trip to Waddesdon in the past couple of years. Also saved money on other days out by buying family tickets and various online offers.

    Thanks @Zoofan15 and @Komodo99 :D

Thanks for the insight, @Brum :) I might consider that once I've gotten to know other members a bit better :)

I was looking at zoo membership as a surprise birthday present for my boyfriend but they're soooo expensive! D:

Colchester,Chester,Twycross,Bristol,Marwell,Edinburgh,Paignton,Newquay and Living Coast all have a reciprocal agreement that gives their members free entry to the other zoos,so it might be an idea to see which is the cheapest of those.
