    Zoos Victoria News: Hippo Birth

    Werribee Open Range Zoo’s Director Jenny Gray is delighted to announce the birth of a hippopotamus calf on Friday 28 March 2008.

    Great news!

    Zoos in the region are doing the right thing in producing as many hippos ( and , hopefully, pygmy hippos ) as they can. There will always be a place for them - they are one of the "classic" zoo exhibits; hardy, long-lived and interesting to most people ( even those who aren't particularly "animal savvy.")

    Interesting that WORZ has updated their animal information including meerkats and African Wild Dogs while Melbourne still haven't updated their snow leopard or red panda pages!
