Not sure if anyone else said this, but apparently Adventure Aquarium has Cape Porcupines with their hippos.

How about greater flamingoes? In ZT2, I'll always mixed them up in a wetlands hippo enclosure

It's a weird combination of animals. I don't think that would work in real life.

At the Zooparque Itatiba, hippos share an exhibit with two female Asian elephants, some domestic water buffaloes, and one marabou stork.

picture shows rhino eland and hippo. Its the largest herd of hippos in captivity, the enclosure is pretty big, so it would appear if there is enough space
    hippos can be mixed successfully

I think you'd lose an awful lot of flamingos......

I thought I saw somewhere that Zoo Dvür Králové mixed Egyptian Goose, Ellipsen Waterbuck, Impala, Grey Crowned Cranes and Pelicans (pink-backed?) with their hippos.

I'm not sure about the cranes and pelicans; the rest I have seen with my own eyes.

Disney's Animal Kingdom keeps/kept pink-backed pelicans with their hippos
Also this mix was true at one point but is no longer (there was also several African bird species, I know the hammerkop was one of them)

There was a variety of aquatic birds kept with them at one point, but according to AZA's ungulate exhibit document, many were removed after the hippos behaved aggressively towards the birds. What birds the hippos didn't aggress were removed when overhead equipment was added to the exhibit.

Thought I ever saw a hippo with an elephant in mixed exhibits and I also saw a rhino with an hippo. I think elephants might work with hippos. But as extra mix. Think both species need to have big own exhibits and have one shared exhibit if you want to make the mix. Think it would work. As long as there are no babies and both species can go away from each other.
Rhino is a bigger risk I guess

Why? Most hippo mixes end in tears, although they seem to work well at Longleat in the lake with sealions

Yeah hippos are to agressive and dangerous but they aren’t capable of killing or being a danger to an adult elephant, while the hippos can seek safety in the water or their own exhibit. Might work out but the question is if both species like the combination, for the elephants I thinks so cause of their high intelligence and interests in learning things. For the hippos idk. I think it’s just neutral. But I think hippo combinations is just something the zoo universe has to think about further and explore and find its limits cause we have really Low amount of experience and knowledge right now.

Both Disney and Birmingham mix their hippos and african elephants together periodically.

Nice I will remember that one!
Think it’s indeed the best to mix them for a short time a day and not all day.

Adventure Aquarium mixes their hippos with a large group of hippos. I'm not sure on the status of other animals though, but I do know for sure a school of cichlids inhabits their pool.
