I know London Zoo kept huia in the 1870s and 1880s. Some authors say 2 males in 1870 others say 1, does anyone have the answer? Also did any other zoo across the world display huia? I look forward to hearing from members.

London Zoo purchased a male huia on May 18th 1870; it died on 28th February 1872.

I have searched through the relevant years of the ZSL's "List of Vertebrated Animals" and can find no reference to another specimen in the collection during the 1870s.

The London Zoo acquired a female huia on 22nd April 1886 when one was deposited by Walter Buller. Almost a year later, on 2 March 1887, Buller presented this individual to the zoo.

Thank you for the information. That seems to answer the London zoo question. Does anyone know of Huia being kept in any other zoo, here or abroad.
