I did a google search (always helpful instead of reading just one article) and while most reports are just repeating each other, I also found conflicting reports such as the one in the following link which says a number of dead dolphins were being washed up on the beaches at the time and that this baby was already dead. It's actually difficult to tell from the video, it does look like it is still moving but that could also be due to the wave action and being handled.

I thought the people taking selfies with, and butchering, the recently beached Sperm whales in the UK were moronic. However, this is a whole new level.

By interesting story, in many ways, not least because of what it says about the ways in which the media works.

The comedian Ricky Gervias tweeted that the people on the beach were "stupid James Hunts" (that probably won't get through the Zoochat censors!). (Edit: it did get through, so I have replaced it with some Cockney rhyming slang).

This blog piece by Jules Howard is excellent - [nature's footnote] - well written, well argued, and balanced.
