    Good to hear that efforts to control animal smuggling is actually taking place. I wonder what penalties were/are handed out!

    Don't expect too much from Indonesian justice system. An old woman got jailed for years for cutting down a durian tree, but corruptors and wildlife traffickers only got jailed for months.

    Two Bornean clouded leopard (Neofelis diardi borneensis) and a white cockatoo (Cacatua alba) are secured from a backyard of a house in Tarakan, North Kalimantan. The owner bought the three animals from a seller in Central Kalimantan. The clouded leopards is planned to be released to a forest near the East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, while the cockatoo in the Maluku Islands.

    The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries thwarted the shipment of 374,5 kilograms of frozen fish that were protected by the government, such as five silky shark (23,6 kg), 29 hammerhead shark (177,1 kg), three guitarfish (78,90 kg), and six wedgefish (94,55 kg), the fish came from the Natuna Island and arrived on the Port of Tanjung Priok, Jakarta.

    The authority managed to secure 310 birds from a boat in Semarang. 32 lesser green leafbirds, 38 white-rumped shamas, and 240 sunbirds were found alive, while 15 lesser green leafbirds, 7 white-rumped shamas, and 64 sunbirds were found dead. The smugglers is currently still running free. Those that are alive were planned to be released into the wild.

    The authority secured 24 birds from a village in Kuta, Bali. The birds include two salmon-crested cockatoo, eight yellow-crested cockatoo, seven eclectus parrot, two black-capped lory, three black-winged starling, and two Bali myna, currently being cared at the Tabanan Wildlife Rescue Center.

    Two young Sumatran orangutan is rescued from smugglers in the Port of Bakauheni, Lampung. The pair came from the town of Lubuk Pakam in North Sumatra and were planned to be smuggled to Tanggerang, Banten. Other animals that the authority found were 20 ferruginous partridges and 30 sunbirds, both were planned to be smuggled to Jakarta.

    The authority thwarted the smuggling of over 3.726 birds in the South Lampung Regency and were going to be sold in Serang. The birds include non-protected species like 540 Javan myna, 450 zebra dove, 750 black-faced munia, 870 ashy tailorbird, 340 bar-winged prinia, 40 long-tailed shrike, 270 purple-throated sunbird, 80 iora, 300 cinereous tit, 42 mangrove blue flycatcher, 6 grey-cheeked bulbul, and two black-winged flycatcher-shrike. While protected species include an hill myna, 7 crested jay, 3 blue-winged leafbird, 5 greater green leafbird, 4 ruby-cheeked sunbird, and 4 red-crowned barbet. The birds will be released to Wan Abdul Rachman Forest Park in Lampung.

    A huge heist of a confiscation. Probably indicative of the absolute size of the illegal bird trade.
