For Crested Woodpecker you need to look in the rafters of the exhibit.

    Were there no pygmy woodpecker?

Done. I actually was doubting whether I'd seen them in an aviary because I have a clear memory of seeing wild ones in the park.

Also just realize the "s" is missing in "species" in the title.

@aardvark250 Where are the woodpeckers located in the zoo? I think I've always missed them.

They are in the exhibits next to japanese sparrowhawk scops owl etc, labelled as "japanese bird house" on the map but is a series of small aviarys.

I visited a week ago, and I didn't see them. Are you sure they are still there? I know where you are talking about, but I can't find any recent photos of them.

I didn't see the Japanese green woodpecker or the Japanese pygmy woodpecker in November 2022. However, I was told Inokashira Park itself is a good birding spot to see wild woodpeckers.

I asked a keeper if they were on display, and sadly, both the pygmy and green woodpeckers were not on display. The Kestral was also replaced by a Peregrine Falcon.

How many of these species are no longer there at Inokashira?

I think these are the biggest losses, are some of them like the gray bunting at any other Japanese facility?

What a shame about the bird collection! Do you know why the bird collection has been so reduced?

I think most birds just passed or got transported to other facilities.
