It Is Hypothesized that way, yes, but I'm not entirely convinced. I mean-So many animals have thought to be fewer numbers than there actually are, take the Lord howe island stick insect for example-Or the Red crested-tree rat, But according to the Survey in 2019, it is definitely possible that only one remains, and this will be the 3rd animal that has gone extinct since I was born, (at least that scientists new about).

Melomys rubicola was extinct in 2019 by global warming/climate change, and the other is probably Lonesome George.

Make that two Lonesome Georges (don't forget the tree snail) plus Rabb's Fringe-limbed Tree Frog.

Those are the ones! I could add multiple species of partula snail, and I guess the Rabb's fringe-limbed tree frog, which hasn't confirmed to be extinct yet right? I always thought it was extinct in the wild? Or did the one at zoo Atlanta die? Chinese paddlefish as well, and if your counting subspecies, Western black rhino.
    Its depressing to think about.

I don't really want to work out how many species have become extinct since I was born. A few years ago, there were about 2.3 billion people living on the planet, now the population is about 7.8 billion. That is really scary.

That is scary to think about. I remember David attenborough saying that (the numbers were different) but the concept was exactly the same, very scary.

It does raise some very difficult and controversial questions.

That might be a little to off-topic for this thread, but another thread surrounding the subject might help.

The Rabb's Fringe-limbed Tree Frog is completely extinct. The last individual was the the Atlanta Botanical Garden and died a few years ago.

Interesting. Still critically endangered according to IUCN? Is that right?

The last known individual died. Sometimes there is a gap in time between the last known animal dying and the species being declared extinct, especially if there's reason to believe it might still be out there (not sure if this is the case with Rabbs' frog). But to the extent of current knowledge, it is extinct despite still being listed as Critically Endangered.
