The latest issue of Zoo Grapevine & International Zoo News (Issue 57, Winter 2020/21) has been published and it contains 42 glossy, full-colour pages and includes the following:

    - 4 pages of 'Zoo News' from around the world
    - 7 pages on zoos of Costa Rica (Ave, Simon Bolivar, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Bat Jungle)
    - 8 pages on zoos of the Midlands (some small English zoos near the city of Birmingham)
    - 8 pages on the changing role of women in zoos
    - plus a few other bits and bobs, including book reviews and other delights.

One really fascinating aspect of this quarterly, labour-of-love magazine is that there has always been a focus on obscure zoos. Many individuals with subscriptions are all too familiar with zoological giants such as Bronx, Berlin, Burgers and Blijdorp, but how many readers have been to Shanghai Ocean Aquarium (China) or Kaunas Zoo (Lithuania)? Both those facilities will be reviewed in the next issue.

It's quite amazing to see the geographical breadth that the Grapevine magazine covers. For instance, just in the past 5 years there have been reviews of zoos located in Costa Rica, Cyprus, South Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Malta, Canada, Nepal, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Colombia, Guyana and the Greek island of Crete. I personally love the articles on the more obscure zoological delights of the world and that focus has become a hallmark of the magazine.

The latest issue of Zoo Grapevine & International Zoo News (Issue 58, Spring 2021) has been published and it contains 46 glossy, full-colour pages and includes the following:

    - 5 pages of 'Zoo News' from around the world
    - 5 pages on Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
    - 6 pages on Kaunas Zoo (Lithuania)
    - 10 pages that 'dive deep' into the early history of public aquariums
    - plus a few other bits and bobs, including 4 pages of book reviews and other delights.

I particularly enjoyed the 10-page article titled "Public Aquariums: The First 60 Years", which is subtitled "Part One: 1853-1874" because there will be two more installments in the series that focuses on the earliest known aquariums. (Written by Leszek Solski of Wroclaw Zoo). I didn't realize that there was an aquarium at the Surrey Zoological Gardens shortly after London Zoo's famous 'Fish House' opened to the public, or that Copenhagen had an aquarium that debuted in 1872 and then closed in 1875. I am glad that in the summer of 2008 I ventured into the basement of the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., as I toured the National Aquarium that day and the facility then closed for good in 2013. Looking back, I'm sure that someone could have turned that small area into another Sea Life franchise! :p

Decided to check the the society's website and saw the editions from 2019 and beyond. While I don't see the 2016 editions the 2019,20, and 21 editions do make up for it.

I will try to get these magazines asap once I have an actual job.

Thank you Mr. Brown and crew.

After experiencing problems with delivery in the past I received the latest issue on 13th November. Alhough I nearly did not.

The postman came at about 11.30 and deliverd my water bill. He (or she) returned about 5 minutes later with Zoo Grapevine.

I must say ZG and IZN was a more interesting read than my bill

Yes. They used to be two separate publications, before merging into one. International Zoo News began in February 1951, before becoming absorbed into Zoo Grapevine with the first issue being Winter 2016/17.

Does a membership make oneself entitled to a discount on older zoo grapevines?

I am not involved with the magazine at all and just a subscriber. (I have had a number of articles published over the years). However, it appears that loads of older issues are for sale via the link below. Each one costs 7 British pounds.
