Hello, Colchester Zoo used to have a pair of Jaguars but were then replaced by Amur leopards. Can anybody tell me where the male went?
Here what happened to the female From Colchester Annual Report 2005 female Jaguar, Handaya, was transferred out of the collection on the 20th September and has moved to Edinburgh Zoo where she will be part of a breeding programme. On the same day, we got a very special new cat species, a male Amur Leopard.
Handaya sadly passed away at Edinburgh a year ago+ i think, Im pretty sure she never bred with Mowgli. They have a new female called Tina I'll see how things are going when i visit next week.
BearCat asked about the male... I'm interested in jaguars, too and try to get all these dates (horrible work). So does anybody know what's up with this ex-Colchester male?
Im not sure i dont think they had a male for quite some time with Handaya i went in 2001/2 although its a rather rusty memory and looking at the now lost guide book,Im sure it was only just Handaya even then. I will see if i can find the guide book and dig some stuff out about him.
Why does any zoo change the species they keep lol They obviously had long term plans to breed amur leopards, hence the new enclosure, which they already expanded into when their last snow leopard sadly died.
Hi I'm new to all this so bear with me! Colchester Zoo had a male and female Jaguar. The male died in early 2000 I think then his mate Handaya moved to Edinburgh Zoo Their old enclosure was refurbished to accomodate a new male Amur leopard called Dende.
