A young female orca, named Narnia, was either captured or rescued (from net entanglement) in August in Russian waters and is currently being kept in the Sochi Dolphinarium. Another whale captured at the same time has since died. Sochi plans to sell the whale to the Primorsky Aquarium, currently in construction.

I think I speak for most, if not all, zoochaters when I say this is a sad development. I encourage everyone to sign Care2's online petition to release the animal back into the wild, for there seems to be no known injuries or other reasons to keep her in captivity. Let’s hope her story does not mirror that of Morgan.

For more information, I would recommend Orcahome.
