Sad news, as reported by Der Spiegel:

    http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/0,1518,752008,00.html

Knut, the famous (infamous?) Polar Bear was found dead in the pool of the exhibit; cause of death is not yet know.

EDIT: If a moderator sees this and could edit the 'the' back in between 'Knut' and 'Polar Bear' in the title that'd be great!

A true zoo celebrity of the modern age and sadly at such a young age.

Yes, just four years old. Will be interesting to see the findings of the autopsy.

(thanks for reinstating my 'the', by the way!)

History repeats itself? London Zoo's famous Polar Bear 'Brumas' who engendered similar hysteria as a cub, also died at a young age- 8 years, twice as old as Knut but still very young for a Polar Bear.

Knuts Storry has got now a Happy End, he's in heaven together again with his bottle-Daddy.

We'll miss you, Knut ! Fascinating, hundreds of people bring flowers to Knut exhibit, but most of this people wouldn't bring flowers to the grave of their's grandmother....

But he cares about thousands of dead japanese or lybian people, when the worlds most beloved polar bear dies ?

I could find out, the mayas were wrong. The end of the world isn't in 2012, it is this year ! First, Michael Jackson died in 2009, and this year, we have the desaster in japan, the war in Lybia and now, Knuts Death ! Thats the Beginning of the End of the World !

You need to see a psychologist.

DEDICATED IN LOVELY MEMORY OF OUR BELOVED KNUT

The Day Knut, the Polar bear Dies

Knut lay dreaming in the grass
His head full of crazy ideas
And just for fun he said
C'mon, let's go to the females
    But the fish tasted bitter
Still, Knut told me what he saw
A sea of lights and colours
    He had no idea
What soon would come to pass

The day when Knut, the polar bear died
    All the bells were ringing
The day when Knut the Polar bear died
All his friends wept for him
    It was a hard day
Because a world inside me fell apart

He often promise that he'd leaves the females alone
    That gave me fresh courage
    And I persuaded myself
That, with love, everything would be fine
    But the game became serious
There was no stopping the downhill slide
    Vistors started talking
    But nobody offered Knut help

The day when Knut the Polar Bear died etc.

    The last time he said
    Now I can see heaven
I screamed at him, oh come back
    and leve the females alone
I didn't even have any more tears
I had lost everything I had
    Life simply goes on
    All that's left me
Are the flowers on his grave

The Day, Knut, the Polar Bear dies....

@Baldur. Very hard words, you shocked me. I thought, you're so a smart and taff boy... but who says it, we finally have something in common, I knew it.

If you want, I send you a postcard from Knuts Funeral.

Well I an neither a psychologist or a psychiatrist but I would certainly fit him out in the aforementioned garment, taking the micky about a much loved animal's death at such a young age, pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

Such sad news, probably the most popular animal at the zoo. It's a real shame to see people taking the mickey out of this situation. Visitors connect with animals and this is often what makes them visit a zoo and therefore support conservation efforts for less well know species both in the zoo and in the wild.

He Guys, Trust me, I loved Knut as you do, and I can't belive it, he's gone, but this is my way, to accept Knut death.By the way, why so serious, Folks ?

Knut, this is for you :

Hold me like the river Jordan
and I will then say to thee you are my friend
carry me like you are my brother
love me like a mother Will you be there

Weary tell me will you hold me
when wrong will you scold me when lost will you find me
but they told me a man should be faithful
and walk when not able and fight till the end but I'm only a bear

    Everyone's taking control of me
seems that the world's got a role for me
I'm so confused will you show to me
you'll be there for me and care enough to bear me

(Hold me lay your head lowly)
(softly then boldly carry me there)
(need me love me and feed me)
(kiss me and free me I will feel blessed)

    (Carry carry me boldly)
(lift me up slowly carry me there)
(save me heal me and bathe me)
(softly you say to me I will be there)

(Lift me lift me up slowly)
(carry me boldly show me you care)
(hold me lay your head lowly)
(softly then boldly carry me there)

(Need me love me and feed me)
(kiss me and free me I will feel blessed)
