Next year's new thing in Kolmården Zoo will be a new safari, replacing the current safaripark and the current cableway. The new safari will not have cars like the current one, it will have a cableway instead. The following info is taken from Kolmården's website. It seems like Kolmården will still have the same animals in the new safari, as in the current, like lion, giraffe, zebra, wolf, brown bear, wild dog etc. This safari will be the only one of its kind in the world, according to Kolmården's website.
That sounds fantastic! I am impressed with the photos I have seen on here from Swedish zoos, and this will just make them even better. Would love to see it in person some day (too bad my Swedish grandmother never taught me to speak Swedish).
Whether a presentation of the animal collection by virtue of a cable car is something to shout about remains somewhat of a mystery to me. The animal collection nor management have not been dramatically altered. Other than a pure novelty effect for returning visitors I do not see what should make us so happy. I just wish that Kolmarden would mirror its safari park on the SBB in Hilvarenbeek (diversification in animals and more a walking/trekking safari style (as opposed to drive-thru) or like Woburn and WSMP moving away from the purely traditional safari style presentation and allowing more high profile endangered species into their wide open space exhibit designs.
Kolmården haven´t get us the info of the whole animal colection. It can come up auprises and interesting new speices. Let´s wait!
Well, it is much the same, but this ride is not going just straight. It will also pass over it self three or four times. It is going from 2,5 meters in some places to 20 meters in others. The lions will have the opportunity to hit the gondolas or "cages" with there paws.
The cages will go close to the ground in the lion enclosure. And, if they jump they can hit it with it´s paws. Thats more correct.
A very novel way of getting some 'interaction' (prevously mostly confined in zoos to Lemurs, small monkeys and birds) between big cats and the visitors? I am sure the visitors will love it if the Lions 'attack' them in their cages.. So long as there are no accidents...
Only about a month left to the opening of Safari. About one year after the construction started. I have really big hopes on this uniqe tour
Here will the tour start. Pass over it self two times and then go down to only meters over the animals

A sushi train of humans floating past the lions! Seriously it looks like it could be a great addition to a great looking zoo. Tell me how many months of the year is there snow on the ground at this location. It always looks cold and wet in so many of the pictures.
It's very different from year to year. Sometimes there is no snow, and sometimes it snows from November to April.
Here is the 2011 map over the zoo where you can see Safari. Kolmården - Kolmården - känns i hela kroppen!
