Hi, i've been doing a file of elephants that chester zoo has kept since 2000 with photos and info but the only elephant that i have no photo of is Kumara. Dose any1 know of where there is a photo of her or if youv'e posted a pic of her here. some additonal info would be nice i.e other collections she stayed at, who were her mother and farther, where was she born, that sort of stuff. thanx. P.S i know all of the detalis of kumara killing Richard Hughes. all i want to know is some info and a photo of Kumara.
Wild born circa 1970. She was sent to Chester from Whipsnade in May 1989. She remained at Chester until October 2001 when she was euthanased. I have some old photos somewhere, but will have to find them and scan them.
I'm sorry to contradict you, but 'Kumara' arrived at Whipsnade in 1967, so she could not have been born circa 1970
That will teach me to use my old, uncomfirmed, records! Her birth date was always hazy in them, Thanks!
Just to confirm, the date of 1967 is accurate. I was sure that, from memory, I’d seen her at Whipsnade in the 1960s but, before posting, I checked in the ZSL Annual Report for 1967.
