I suppose it depends what you mean by 'zoo supporters'. Speaking for myself (female) and my female friends, we visit zoos a lot but don't feel the need to join societies. I came upon Zoochat by chance and use it to keep up to date with things that interest me, rather than discuss my ideal zoo etc, etc. I haven't got enough evidence to say that this is a female trait, though. It's been mentioned on the forum that a large number of keepers are female.
Wow! Just found this thread and would love to learn the ages and genders of all those regulars who've joined since this was started 10 years ago! I'm 58 and female.
Us ladies are definitely outnumbered by the men here, which seems to be similar across many groups I'm in. Orchid societies are predominantly male, but compare this to more 'informal' orchid groups on Facebook, which are predominantly female. IZES meetups are overwhelmingly male. Maybe there is something about organised groups that attract males, with females preferring something more informal?
I mistyped my age (I think - maybe I just forgot temporarily ) I'm actually only just 14 (so year 10 for all you Brits )
