Hello everyone. I pray you are all in the best of health and spirits. I have a soft spot for zoos with large exhibits and plenty of walking space. I generally classify zoos as "big" at 100 acres or more. So, I was wondering whether you readers have any suggestions for me. I live in the U.S., so I will mainly focus on American zoos. However, I wouldn't mind some international choices as well.
One of the best zoos in the country, the North Carolina Zoo fits your description! It is on 2,600 acres of land (though only 500 are actually developed). It has some of the most impressive habitats you'll see, such as a 40 acre grasslands for the Rhinos and Antelope, a 7 acre habitat for their Elephants, 11 acres for Bison and Elk, over 3 Acres for the Giraffes and Zebras, and an acre for chimps, among other awesome habitats! The zoo also has a desert dome and the rockwork is fantastic! Well worth a visit!
Thanks. Heard of this zoo before, but didn't know it was that big! A 40-acre exhibit is no joke. I really look forward to checking it out someday.
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is 1,800 Acres in size, And has this Massive Wildlife space where an assortment of Species live together, I don't know how big that specific wildlife habitat is but it has at least an area of 19.63 Miles^2 if the advertised 2.5 mile tram tour which loops around it is true. Overall it looks like that section takes up around 1/3 of the park from an ariel view.
Second Berlin Tierpark, for the UK the obvious one would be ZSL Whipsnade. Not only is the zoo itself massive but you can tell the approach ZSL took of going for fewer animals but far greater enclosure size. 600 developed acres, with an extortionate couple thousand more owned with a good portion of that going to a future elephant extension.
My favorite zoo I've been to is Pairi Daiza, which is also one of the biggest I've been to and requires at least two days to fully visit.
We've just been to Parc des félins in France. Just looking it up, it says 148 acres. For me personally, some of the biggest enclosures I've ever seen. I've only been to so many places, but it's right up there. If you like cats, and are ever travelling to France, I would definitely reccomend.
Another great one is the Chester Zoo, which has a large variety and takes about a full day to visit. I visited in the snow and most of the animals were still out. Bronx Zoo is also one I really enjoy.
