An adult female Sumatran-Orang-Utan and her two year old child (Jambi and her daughter or Menggala and her son) are going to come to Pongoland from Budapest Zoo in october.
Quolls can give birth to quite a few young at a time. I think about 5 or 6 is the maximum so imagine if each of the females had this many. That's up to 20 new quolls for Europe.
8 Nicaraguan slider (Trachemys emolli) hatched - the first hatching in europe - and a Prehensile-tailed skink (Corucia zebrata) was born.
16 year old female Sumtran Orang-Utan "Menggala" and her two years old son "Vilmos" arrived from Budapest Zoo in Hungary.
Gorilla female "Zola" (*2008 at Leipzig, "Gorgo" x "Viringika") was shipped to Rostock Zoo. New gorilla male "Abeeku" did not accept her. "Zola" is going to built a temporary group with her father "Gorgo" und her "aunt" "Bebe" at Rostock.
Do you/anybody know when the Amur Leopard swap is going to take place? Maybe Colchester's female 'Milena' could be a potential candidate as she has not bred yet and Leipzig's male has successfully bred before.
I have not further information concerning the swap, but I presume, the swap will take place 2014, when the new enclosure is finishes.
I have heard of this happening before somewhere with a very young female and an incoming/new male. I think it may mirror a situation in the wild where if a new male takes over a group, as well as attacking infants of the previous leader, he also tries to drive out any young juveniles still dependant on their mothers.
Two further females, a mother with her 10 year old daughter, is going to arrive at Leipzig in the future.
