New species at Gondwanaland: - Golden mantella (Mantella aurantiaca) - Golfodulcean poison dart frog (Phyllobates vittatus), they already bred - Victoria Crowned-pigeon (Goura victoria)
- Two Myanmar thamins were born. - Bearded Barbets, Violet plantain-eaters, Red-crested turaco, Purple honeycreeper, Williams electric blue gecko and Australian green Tree Frogs hatched. - A female Musk deer was shipped to Berlin Zoo. - 24 Colorado River toads arrived from Bern and 3 Dalmatian pelicans from Vienna. - A female adult Eastern quoll died.
A Swellshark, sired by parthogenesis, hatched at the aquarium. It is the first hatch of this species in europe. One Eastern quoll female with 3,2 pups, born in July 2012, is now on show at Gondwanaland. The other three females are behind the scenes together with their offspring.
Five Large flying foxes, six Brahminy starling, Peking robins and other birds are still in quarantine for Gondwanaland.
18 Eastern quolls (3,2,13, 5-5-5-3) were born this year to four one year old females, born at Leipzig in June 2011.
The monkey house is closed since october. It is going to become a home for endangered birds and small mammals.
The zoo is to receive 4 sloth bears from the Mysore zoo in India. Sloth bears from Mysore zoo to head to Germany - The Times of India
The import was already confirmed by the zoo itself. Leipzig and India are going to start a cooperation program to improve animals husbandry in indian zoos and to enhance chances of self-supporting ex-situ zoo populations. India will arrange a sloth bear studbook with the help of Leipzig. Further imports will be possible in future.
