Ustin is a male Amur tiger which had a bad start in life. He was found - together with 4 other Amur tigers - 3 years ago as a cub, more dead then alive and they were brought to a Carnivore-center in the region Primorje.
Here they were raised succesfully and were prepeared to a life in the wild.
Summer last year Ustin was released in Russians far-east, fitted with a radio-collar so his moves could be followed. He exploired a huge area and in the autumn he swam though the Amur-river to the island of Bolschoj Ussurijskij and was seen even in the city-border of Chabarowsk. Later Ustin even went over the border and was in the Chinese area of Fuyuan. Here he was prop. fed by "animal-friends" with domesticated animals and got in this way spoiled. In December 2014 he went back over the frozen Amur river to Russia were he started to attack dogs and came to close to the local people of this area. Therefor he had to be caught and brought back into captivity.
First Ustin was brought back to the original Carnivore center but now has found a new home at the Zoo of Rostov.
Here its hoped he can be paired-up with 10-year old female Prima. It would be very important to get some young from this pairing because Ustin came become a very important new founder of the captive Amur tiger-population !
