Monarto Safari Park Lion Cub Born

    A lion cub has been born at the zoo 8 days ago (3rd of May). Looks like Monarto is haveing a mini baby boom!

    Good news for mum Kiamba after her first litter were stillborn in 2007. Hope all goes well for them this time :D

    The naming rights for the cub are being auctioned off on ebay.

    Naming rights ended yesterday and sold for a grand total of... $711.99 (lets say $712 ;) )

    Very good news, I haven't seen a bison born at Monarto in many years, and some of the herd had slowly died out, good to hear that there may also be more births on the way.

    -Jahzara (the lion cub) has now gone on public display and been integrated with the other lions

    In other news, 0.0.6 "Zimbabwean Blue" Ostrich have hatched (I have looked into this name and there doesn't seem to be an ostrich sub-speices called this, maybe others will know?)

    Many subspecies have many different common names, some more popular than others. About 12 months ago there was another seven born.
