@michaelarthur How are things at the Little Rock Zoo these days? Have they announced any new exhibits or added or subtracted any interesting species?
Malayan Pitvipers were taken off exhibit as of my last several visits throughout 2018. There was some form of exhibit renovation/construction in the reptile house, and upon my last visit in late 2018, Phillipene Pitvipers had been added on exhibit. I also noticed the addition of African Black Ducks, Indian Spot-billed Ducks, Spotted Whistling Ducks, and a West Indian Whistling Duck, all in the large waterfowl pond. It is possible some of these ducks have been at the zoo longer, I just didn't see them on my visits. None of these ducks were signed when I went. Somali Wild Ass are also present at the zoo (as of early 2018 at the latest when I first saw them) and more recently (as of late 2018) Secretary Birds have been added to the duiker exhibit.

I know Arkansas is not quite the richest zoo, but it sure as hell will not raise income nor improve the visitor experience
Task force announced to determine future of Little Rock Zoo. Mayor announces task force to plan future of Little Rock Zoo - Arkansas Times
I dare not think about the consequences! Do not tell me it is mere downsizing or costcutting - hence visionless bulloney-!!!
@gerenuk: Sorry, perhaps I misinterpreted this one with the previous postings in mind on the understanding of a costcutting exercise by City Council and closing the zoo 2 days a week. This does sound somewhat more promising and more acreage for the zoo for expansion. I just wonder where this would even fit in their current masterplan?
Little Rock Zoo loses Trudy, oldest living Western Lowland Gorilla in a zoo Trudy, the Western Lowland Gorilla, passed away at 63, a sad day for our whole zoo family.
In more sad news, Ed the Aldabra tortoise passed away over the weekend. But on a lighter note the zoo announced today the birth of a female Bornean Orangutan, born July 28th. She’s the first for mom and the first Orangutan born at the zoo. Zoo Proud to Announce Birth of Baby Orangutan My post got beat out by mere seconds lol
Little rock has a new website Little Rock Zoo. Can anyone name this species they misidentified as American kestrel. I think it's a Mississippi kite. Birds | Little Rock Zoo. In bad news, it appears they no longer exhibit Talapoins.
I concur, definitely looks like a Mississippi Kite to me. They additionally seem to no longer have vampire bats, but do still have lesser spot-nosed monkey.
Yes that is a Mississippi Kite and no they have not had Talapoin on exhibit for many years now. I highly doubt they even have any.
