Also @MagpieGoose which enclosure are the hyraxes in? Are they in one of the smaller enclosures? In which case they are likely where the chinchillas were formerly kept.

It was the day you we're at Twycross but if i'm down again I will defenitly see if you are about. The hyrax are on the ex-rhino side of the building on the left if you are walking up the ramp. The enclosure says there is nothing in it but I saw 2 hyrax! The keeper said they are just waiting for the porcupine enclosure too be made hyrax-proof

Ah ok no worries MG :) now that's interesting, I was wondering why I couldn't see any hyraxes in the actual enclosure upon my last visit...

The Rock Hyrax (3 of them I saw) are in the enclosure opposite the 3 meerkats ie on the right hand side as you walk up the ramp. At least they were on Tuesday.

Not surprised, he was rarely visible and wasn't used in any of the Animal Activities!

I only saw him once to be fair, he never really made an appearance (much like his predecessor Honey)

In other news, another colobus has been born, this time a female. She has been named Mandible, and joins dad Radius, mum Sophia, uncle Fibula, aunts Niamey and Thumbelina, brothers Tibia, Orbit, Digit, Knuckles, Bones, Maxilla, Atlas, Patella and Talus, and sister Anvil. This leaves the group at 16 individuals total.....and in definite need of that new spacious home at the Snowdon!

Haven't had time to post, but some updates.

Walkthrough aviaries still closed, but macaws and flamingos are back onshow now.

Lots of work going on in the BUGS house, locust enclosure is being gutted and refurbed, the aquarium part has been blocked off for works, and lots of long standing animals have been replaced (rats with mosquitos for example).

Glad to see the rats move out - never liked that little tank and there's a much better Brown Rat enclosure now in the Clore.

Its an interesting article of 'behind the scenes' in the modern ZSL. I see Gorilla 'Effie' is on a sort of permanent diet, she gets half portions of the nuts they are all given.

Strange, especially if she does still feed Gernot, who, I see, isn't mentioned on the lists. I like the idea of Zaire's Old Lady Extras!

At the risk of coming across as dim, what does the "DK" in the gorilla diet stand for?

Not dim. I haven't twigged it yet either.;) But Effie gets less of that too. Maybe a brand of concentrated pellet or chow?

I don't think she has fed Gernot since the very earliest days. Her breasts look inactive in all the photos I've seen. Maybe she carries him sometimes but Mjuku seems to be his primary carer. I guess Gernot isn't mentioned as he's not old enough to feature on the diet sheets yet.
