Couple of updates from the last few days worth of Animal Park episodes:

A male Kinkajou is now resident in the Bat Cave.

Wallaby Wood is no more. The Wallaby's have moved to a new Farmyard area near Animal Adventure and are mixed with Emu's

Giraffes - Ron (mentioned earlier in the thread) is Ella's calf. Gertie had a female calf earlier this Summer. Calf has been named Shelley. Apparently this will be the last Giraffe birth at the park for a while. The EEP have requested that they stop breeding for at least 12 months. Not sure if this is just Longleat or all breeding herds of Rothschild Giraffe in Europe. Would guess its likely that they'll start again with a new bull after the break

A female Secretary bird also arrived from the Czech Republic in the Spring. Possibly from Dvur Kralove? So they now have 1.1

Can confirm. The young female secretary bird is from Dvůr Králové. Hatched there last year and is parent-reared so best suited for future breeding.

    Hello fellow Zoochatters!
I was just wondering if you can view the gorillas without going past on the boat is there a viewing platform? Also does anyone know if Longleat will continue to keep elephants once Anne has passed on or whether her enclosure will be reporursed for something else?

    Many thanks in advance

    Kind regards The Hedgehog

I don't believe you can see the gorillas without going on the boat, I've never been able to see them.

No you cannot view the gorillas on foot, unless you purchase a gorilla experience.

If you stayed on the caravan club site, you used to be able to walk the grounds at night, I got some great views of the hippos early evening but I believe you are now no longer allowed to do this.

I have not been to Longleat since 2014 so didn't know if they had built a viewing platform. Do you think Longleat will ever get more elephants

They won't get more Elephants. The relatively new house and enclosure will flattened and used as the site for the Polar Bear exhibit. I believe they'll be mixed with a Penguin species. Possibly King

A long time ago you could walk along the edge of the lake on the Gorilla side also- not any more. Everywhere in the park away from the carparking areas there are signs saying- 'no entry' etc. it has become very much restricted access nowadays. Entry and exits are mainly one-way nowadays too, the Heaven's Gate entrance toward Horningsham is now only an exit, they have ramp things in the roads to prevent two way access.

I think the Gorilla viewing there is very poor value, a few moments as you pass by on the boat- I would never bother with it.

It's ok, fairly sure the original post was just put up to say "how are we supposed to know?" but in a slightly more classic Nisha fashion..... :D alarm bells would ring to anyone once reading that they had plans to put a North and South pole animal together....

Nisha are you being serious will there really be Polar Bears and King penguins at Longleat instead of elephants what a waste of money on Longleats part building a lovely enclosure then demolishing it.

No, as I said previously, that was the original plan. They now intend on filling it with a group of thylacines, dodos and, if memory serves, a couple of woolly mammoths although I think they are due to go to Highland Wildlife Park...?
