    Thanks for doing this! What I'm most excited about, and didn't notice, is the much, much larger wild dog enclosure. They're such a great display species, with a lot of captive breeding success.

    I think the vineyards are a decorative element for the big lodge-type events building that is proposed. Keep in mind that all of this is highly conceptual now. They said the concept art of the canyon area may not at all resemble what gets built (e.g., people rock climbing on the side of the canyon).

    John Lewis, the LA Zoo director, said that the condor interpretive zone in the education building would be moved to the new condor exhibit area because it doesn't get much use at the front of the zoo.

    I do seem to see a Peninsular pronghorn group on one of the concept art visualisations of the California canyon exhibit? That does qualify as a local conservation story and hopefully theming, does it not?

    Also, let us wait and see what transpires as concept art and actual project when it gets realised can be a real time-visual dependent thing! I am also quite confident tht John Lewis et al will not let the theming digress into a sideshow and have their eyes firmly also on quality exhibitry for its animal inhabitants.

    This might sound lazy, but can someone summarize the main points in the above video for people who don't have time to watch it?

    It is summarized in some of the posts on the previous page.

    Agreed.

    The okapi and ocelot births are exciting, as are the vampire crabs. 5 wallaby deaths in one month is quite a lot though... I wonder if it was just unusually high attrition or if some mortality event occurred.

    Potentially this might affect other endangered Caprinae and Antilopinae taxa at the LA Zoo.
    I hope it will all work out favourably though.

    BTW: also 1.4 yellow footed rock wallaby deaths ....

    For international purposes (interesting):
    Czech Republic - Zoologicka zahrada (could be any of a number of Czech zoos in all fairness): 1.2 Panay coud rats (Crateromys heaneyi) returned on advice of EEP studbook keeper (due to limited success ...);
    1.0 black-handed spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi) transferred to Auckland Zoo, New Zealand.
    Allthough this animal is presently at the Metro Toronto Zoo and thus shiphment should (have) be(en) from Canada to New Zealand.

    Yknow...the director made a kind of cryptic remark at the meeting for the master plan about enclosing the Australia exhibit to better protect animals from P22. I thought it was in reference to the koala death, but five wallabies seems like a lot.
