TBH, I don't even know where the ocelot is located nowadays. I'm heading over this week to check out the new binturongs and would be happy to take a look.

The ocelots should be in the roundhouse next to the Mountain Tapir.

Yes but is the kitten out now?

(edit - I have learned the ocelot kitten only survived a few days)

It’s funny how every time I go to a zoo or aquarium that is not Oakland or San Francisco, the zoo gets either a new animal or an animal is born. Well congrats to LA zoo for the birth of its ocelot and its okapi.

What’s Better for Billy? A Sanctuary That May Want $8.1 Million from LA Taxpayers, or Sanctuary That Doesn’t Exist?

Here's a blog post that talks about the absurdity of moving Billy to a sanctuary. Notice how the LA Times article fails to mention which facility Billy would be sent to. That's because only the PAWS sanctuary could hold him but they won't hold him for free. Not only would Billy be kept alone at PAWS, but it would cost the tax payers of LA over $8 million to transfer him there and to ensure his upkeep until he reaches the age of 60. He can't go to TES because that's only for female elephants and the proposed bull only sanctuary in Georgia might never be built and there is no guarantee that the quality of care would be better at any of these facilities than he gets at LA.

I do love the part in the times article about how Billy is not uncomfortable during his semen collection sessions :)

In two recent animal transactions, it said a zebra was born, and then another died. Does anyone know if it was the foal that died?

One thing I did not like about that blogpost is that it seems to only criticize the sanctuaries, instead of also talking about how great the LA zoo is and how well it actually DOES treat Billy

I must say, it's very odd to see, under the deaths section, "0.0.1 crab". I wasn't aware the zoo had crabs, and the lack of species name is unusual. Also, very nice to see that the LA Zoo will be receiving Raggiana Bird of Paradise.

Sad about the Chinese goral. At least it confirms they still have them (even if I've never managed to see one...)

They're located on the perimeter road enclosure right across from the Chimpanzee Penthouse. And almost always easy to spot.
