Is that the exhibit that is in between the zebras and gerenuk yards? It would be a premium spot to see the vultures!

Yes, it's been empty and abandoned since the ibexes all had to be euthanized due to Malignant Catarrhal Fever in late 2017.

Oh wow I didn’t know that, that’s horrible :( Hopefully one day the zoo can get Ibex again, such wonderful animals.

As a general volunteer of the zoo, I was told of the plans for the cape vulture and trumpeter swan exhibits. It’s nice to have cape Vultures on exhibit again and more visible to visitors. Their current exhibit is located near the Jaguar exhibit in the Rainforest of the Americas, but cut off from the public and two vultures Thelma and Louise participate in the bird show.

The trumpeter swan renovation mostly has to do with the aging waterfall feature.

as for the upcoming education/event space that is new and I don’t know where in the zoo would it be placed in?

So will all features of the old monkey island in the trumpeter exhibit be removed? Also do you know where the vulture exhibit will be/confirm it will be in the ibex enclosure. I only have doubts because if I remember the master plan correctly there are supposed to be African primates or Okapis somewhere in that area. I thought the old plan was to put the vultures on the hill side at the end of the new African exhibit.

Does anyone know the last time Black Rhinos were at the LA Zoo? I know there were three Black Rhinos here back in 2001, and I hear that a female that is about to move to Honolulu from San Diego Safari Park is currently owned by this zoo.

I don’t think it’s a typo… I’ve seen such newly discovered species out in the wild enjoying In-N-Out and getting a tan out in So-Cal :D

CJ is still there. It was Seattle who was born in Los Angeles to the prior pair - Lulu and Manning - who already moved from Baton Rouge to Honolulu.

Thank you for letting me know, I haven’t even seen him in any visits during the last month including him sleeping so I assumed he had left when I saw the transaction

Well in the same report there was a Reggiana bird-of-paradise so it looks like the zoo now has 2 new species

I noticed during my visit today that Leadbottom the Andean Condor now also has access to the apparently former scarlet macaw exhibit next to his usual exhibit. There is no sign on that space to show he has access to it but I saw him in there. The Andean Condor sign remains on his usual/longtime exhibit.

"Recently moved"? I mean if you count more than a decade as "recent"... and what exactly is he and the vocal minority complaining about? Billy's got ample space, is well socialized with Shaunzi, Tina and Jewel, boatloads of enrichment... what could they possibly be complaining about? That Billy's still in a zoo? I'm utterly perplexed.
