On January 30th, the zoo announced they broke ground on a new building for offices and a training center, as well as new on-site holding areas for their ambassador animals. The naked mole rat enclosure was just renovated. In the ANIMAL VIEWING SCHEDULE drop down menu on TODAY tab it says: "Naked Mole Rats Visit the naked mole rats in their newly renovated habitat. The former Hyacinth macaw enclosure was the worst exhibit I have ever seen in an accredited zoo. It was a barren cage with one branch and no enrichment and the birds' food was being visited continuously by five very large brown rats. It made me think very poorly of the facility.
When I visited Louisville a few weeks ago, I saw a Hyacinth macaw in the Islands walk through aviary. I'm not sure if it's a temporary move, though.
