For some time now, i have been working on an Animal Database where alle of the animals living in the Danish Zoos are listed. Now i have translated the list with all the mammals, and hope that you all will find it usefull. It's about 90 % correct, since most of the small zoos are not that good at informing what species they have. Hope that you will enjoy!

What a wealth of information. Could you do one for birds? I understand that it would be a lot harder.

    Very nice list :)

Does Copenhage no longer have hippo's? As far as i know a male at Emmen Zoo is listed to go there in the (near?) future...

Most interesting for me was the striped Hyena, never heared of that small zoo and amazing to read they have such relatively zoo-rare animals...

Thansk you all! To answer your questions...

jay and bongorob: The danish zoos that have their animals listed on ISIS are Copenhagen, Odense, Givskud, Aalborg, Ree Park - Ebeltoft Safari, Randers Regnskov, Knuthenborg Safari, Jesperhus, Joboland, Nykøbing Falster, Skærup, Christianshede, Crocodile zoo and Terraium Vissenbjerg and CEU (i think). Dyrenes Gard is now know as Munkholm Zoo

Writhedhornbill: I have allready made one for birds and reptiles in Danish, but translating them would take an enormous amount of work. Since we have two birdparks and one tropical zoo in Denmark, we have a large variety of small tropical birds. I could post the danish version however, as it includes the latin names? Or i should just translate most of it, and leave some of the smaller birds out?

jwer: Thanks for the info on Emmen! No, Copenhagen Zoo gave up their hippos a few years go, but they are returning to the zoo this fall :D. A new savannah has just oppened, and a brand new hippo-house will be finished this oktober. It will look a bit like a smaller version of the one in Berlin Zoo. And the antelopes from the savannah will have acess to the hippo's lake

And Blaavand Zoo (as with many other Danish mini zoos) may not have aquired that animals completely legal. The did get a fine/ticket for selling to crowned cranes 18 months ago, when a Danish television show exposed a business that deals with endangered species. They acted as buyers, and managed to purchase a small tigercub in Germany. The dealers where arrested, and the tiger now lives happily in Knuthneborg Safari :)

Hope that answers everything :). If not, please ask

Budorcas Taxicolor bedfordi would be the golden takin, and they can't have those since they are only held at Liberec and Chomoutov (CZ).

    You mean Burdorcas Taxicolor Taxicolor.

The germans made a similar listing in german on a forum, for you as a danish person you might be able to navigate it more easily then the english (though it does contain latin names)

Could you do them both? Sometimes, it's easier to show some latin names, as it helps if it has 2 common names.

jwer: Thansk for spotting that. It is now corrected. The reason for the mistake, is that their latin name does not show on Skærup Zoo's website, and i found the bad info on Wikipedia . I think that i will keep on updating this list here on ZooBeat in the future

I have allready seen the german website, but i actually prefer english. It's pretty good though, and it's not like i cant understand it. Sadly, it dosent include Denmark.

Writhedhornbill: I just remenbered that i have not written down the latin names for the birds or reptiles yet, so it will take me some work to get it ready. The best i can give you now are the danish common names.

You will be very happy to know that my new site (still called Zoos.dk) will open this weekend. Here i have translated a bit of it to english, including ten reviwes/descriptions from Danish Zoos, and of course the 3 Animal Databases. This has all been done thanks to the friendly people here at ZooBeat .

The Mammal and Bird list are fully completed with english and latin names, but the Reptile Database is not quite ready yet. It will be soon though :)

    Check it out!

Zoos.dk - Now in english (My new site may not have opened just yet, but it will be as soon as possible. It all depends on DK hostmasters).

Sadly, no :( I have been looking for that for ages myself. I have an old book where an old black-and-white photo can be seen. All i know about is that it was a female named Subur, and she died in 1972. She has been stuffed though, and can now be seen in the Copenhagen Zoological Museum :)

Thanks for that jwer, great site :).

    Hear ye! Hear ye!

The new and improved Zoos.dk is now open!. It has lots of new features, but most interesting for the good people here at ZooBeat, part of it has now been translated into english! This has been done thanks to all the support and nice comments i got here at the forum.

    Just log onto Zoos.dk

And click on "In English" in the menu on the left.

Here you can see Animal Databases of the animals found in Danish zoos, plus 10 reviews/descriptions from the biggest zoos in Denmark, with more to come.

    See you at Zoos.dk :D

Hello Dankeohl I was wondering if you would know much detail about the future breeding plans of Copenhagen's elephants?
Are they already starting to try and breed Tonsak with Kungrao or Surin?

(I assuming that was a the main purpose they were imported)
