Does anyone here have info about the new orangutan enclosure being built in the zoo.The only thing I found is apparently the indoor area is gonna be 100 to 200 sq meter with natural plants and bedding. And something about adding fish into the enclosure.

World's oldest Diana monkey in captivity dies in Japan's Sapporo

The world's oldest Diana monkey in captivity named "Washington" has died at the age of 39 at a zoo in Sapporo on Japan's northernmost main island, officials said Saturday.

The male primate, born on Aug. 26, 1982, at an Oklahoma zoo in the United States, had sired a total of 13 offspring, contributing to the preservation of the endangered species.

The monkey was eating through Friday, but his death was confirmed the following day, according to Sapporo Maruyama Zoo, where he had lived since 1984.

Some sad news and happy news to announce:

The sad news is that on June 17th, they announced that their 1:0 Nile Hippo called "Don", passed away at the age of fifty-four years. The Zoo still has another hippo, his daughter, forty-eight-year-old "Zan".
