Emperor Tamarin have now left Marwell, the old Takin house has now beeen knocked down. When the Colobus leave the area will be redone for Lemurs, with a walk through.
The 'takin house' was actually an 'okapi house' and then a 'tapir house', before the takins occupied that enclosure. Surely the colobus are not in this area?
No the colobus are in the Giraffe house, the area where the Takin house is was also used for Capybara at one time,It was also the site of the old Lynx area.
Sorry to be negative again, but New Year means same old story! More species lost every year, usually in the first 2 months! No excuses please!
Hello Everyone! Quick question, I keep seeing that a new Walk-Through Lemur Enclosure is opening this summer? Where is that being built or located? I visited last week and saw no sign of it! Thankyou
I wonder if it could be going in the old tamarin walkthrough in the Australia area? I'm pretty sure the walkthrough is now empty after previously holding tamarins and then birds.
An earlier post by okapis seems to indicate the lemur walkthrough will be in the Colobus enclosure I think? I suspect it will just be ring-taileds, so really can't get excited about it, especially as the Colobus will be gone with no new animals replacing them!
Just looking at the new zoo map for Marwell it appears to be located next to the Giraffes. Not a massive space for a walk through? Also noted the map is in new style and imagery.
Work is due to start on the walk through in the Girafffe house will be a number of species of Lemur, the Colobus have been moved off show.
The new map is one of the worst I've seen anywhere! It looks like a 5 year old designed it and also makes it look as though the zoo has hardly any animals! On second thoughts, this is Marwell.....
I don't quite understand how it will look or work as a Walk-Through but look forward to the development. I wander what will go in the current Lemur enclosures instead then? Probably left empty like other enclosures.
There will be still be Lemurs in the currant area, the empty areas will have Tamarin and Saki Monkey. Marwell had its best year ever in terms of visitor numbers and made over a million profit.
visited today and heard a few people whilst walking around mention a baby tapir - anyone know if there's any substance to this? we stood for a while and heard a weird high pitched noise from the enclosure, but not sure if that was an adult or not.. on a side note, the new photographer competiton boards have been updated to this year's winners - one is mine, so chuffed! so please go and have a look at them all, some amazing work
