Medan Zoo attracted controversy over a video of an skinny Sumatran tiger eating a grass. According to the zoo's vet, the tiger is "sick due to indigestion and intestinal worms". Medan Zoo has received investment from well-known Indonesian celebrity Raffi Ahmad, who actually planned to build his own zoo named "RANS Carnaval City Zoo".
