As the current thread for Memphis Zoo news dates back to 2012, I thought that it was time for a new thread!

That said, the zoo has just announced that two male fishing cat kittens were born on December 14th:

Perhaps this may be the active thread where Zambezi Hippo Camp will be completed!

Memphis has a website up for Zambezi River Hippo Camp.

    Home

The new exhibit opens tomorrow. I hope to get up there sometime soon and get pictures of it, as well as the rest of the zoo.

Saw some video of it on the local news. It looks amazing! as a $24,000,000 exhibit should. Will go see it in a few weeks. I'll wait until the rush of school field trips are over.

I can sleep a lot easier knowing Memphis's hippos are living in a state-of-the-art exhibit rather than the ******** they have occupied for 60 years. Rare to see state-of-the-art exhibits open at two different zoos for two different marquee animals the same month (Detroit-penguins, Memphis-hippos.)

What makes this hippo exhibit "state of the art"?

Yeah. While its definitely an upgrade, it definitely wasn't one of the best hippo exhibits I've seen (this is based of the photos I've seen of it).

How many bonobos are there in the group here? I currently have six written down; males Mobali and Macumba, and females Gilda, Lisala, Lily and Kiri. Is this all of them?
