Some updates from today's visit: -Today was my very first winter zoo trip, and, honestly, I left very surprised. It was great to see some of the North American animals (like moose, polar bear, elk, Dall sheep, caribou, and even grizzly bears) plow through the snow. Other fascinating animals included penguins, Amur tigers, camels, and alpacas. There was even a cheetah and jaguar that braved the snow. However, I was disappointed to find that the snow leopard (more on this later), red panda, wolves, and Japanese macaques weren't out. Lastly, I will point out that I think several areas throughout the zoo with fake rockwork (examples being the penguin exhibit and bear grottoes) look much better with all the snow covering the concrete. -Turns out that Malinde, our oldest giraffe, died over the summer. According to the Zoo's Alive Magazine, we should be getting one or two more giraffes to join current residents Bahatika and Rahna soon. -I may know why the snow leopard wasn't on exhibit. In front of the window to the cat house's kitchen is a board with info about each cat. Under the snow leopard category, I saw that an additional snow leopard named Genghis was listed along with the resident female Tomoris. Maybe they were doing introductions. Also, according to the same board, the remaining lion cubs, male Kiume and female Njeri, have been sent to John Ball Zoo and Caldwell Zoo (I think) respectively. -Willie, North Carolina's visiting polar bear, hasn't been on display on my last couple visits. Anyone know if he moved back to N.C.? -The Diana monkey is still there. According to the Alive Magazine again, the Diana and previously mentioned de Brazza's monkey are rotating. The de Brazza's monkey, named Harry, will be staying here until a suitable mate is found for him at another zoo. HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: The jaguar cubs were without a doubt the best part of my trip! The two brothers were chasing each other, wrestling, and picking on their mother Stella almost the whole time I was there. Their playful antics were very cute!

A few new animals: Jersey Cow vs. Jersey Shore | Milwaukee County Zoo Whoever Said Age Doesn?t Really Matter Was Right! | Milwaukee County Zoo Also, I found out more information about the black bear exhibit renovations. According to the most recent contributors report, the exhibit will be renovated bit by bit, with the overall completion date being spring 2015. This year, trees were added, and overtime, a waterfall, grass, dirt, bushes, more vegetation, and a cave-like area will be added. The exhibit will have a focus on water conservation, explaining how the soil and grass will save more water for the zoo. This sounds very promising - I have high hopes when the renovation is complete.
