I was wondering if they'd add a tunnel and connect it to the main enclosure. Then they could just pass through the two. I don't know if Milwaukee would have the money to do something like that though.

As of today the mandrill is still at the zoo. So we’ll see what happens later in the year when she’s moved.

Milwaukee has closed their aviary due to the bird flu.

The zoo has not only closed the aviary but has pulled all birds off exhibit for the time being. This includes any birds in any other exhibit outside the aviary, penguins too. It was crazy to see the difference from being able to see all the birds on Sunday to none on Wednesday.

According to the zoo Facebook page a 2nd litter of otter pups was born on 2/26. There are 2 males and 1 female in this litter

Yep! That appears to be correct. She has a recommendation with Oliver. No breeding for Maji Maji and Hodari, sadly.

Recent trip to the zoo and I am pleasantly surprised to see that they are updating and gearing up for the summer season. Just some quick updates.

    * Animal hospital is now open again
    * Looks like we are getting closer to seeing what's going to be going in the former milk frog exhibit
    * It looks like there was a baby born, prehensile tail porcupine
    * The former prairie dog exhibit has had trees removed and some minor renovations
    * The wall that was put up surrounding the former dall sheep is now down, and it looks like they are cleaning the exhibit up
    * The Trumpeter Swans "Boo" and "Ghost" have now moved into the last exhibit on the former rhinos side. Not sure what once was there, anyone know? The exhibit is similar to the hippo but other side.
    * The former Malayan tapir outdoor space looks to have a new sign installed, possibly pointing to a new animal coming in temporarily.

Overall, after visiting this most recent visit, I noticed the there are a lot more signs and roped off areas (which in my opinion makes the zoo feel less confusing). The zoo is communicating with the general public on what is happening and why things may be closed off or why an animal(s) maybe off exhibit. I am really curious to see what's going to be happening at the zoo this year as we inch closer to a year under a new director and what he does to create a vision for the zoo.

All that sounds like we have quite a few new species incoming Very soon. That makes sense as the zoo feels quite empty at the moment.

I would assume some kind of hoofstock species, maybe muntjac or a wild pig? (Visayan warty pig or babirusa)

I’m not sure, because each space is different and one is at least temporarily because construction this upcoming winter is going to destroy that space.
