Miskolc Zoo was missing from Zoochat up to now, but it's a very interesting place. They have Bactrian deer, Khulan, Milu, Bharal and Cherry-crowned mangabey.
Yesterday I visited the Miskolc Zoo. This was my 15th zoo. It was a disappointment to me, because the whole garden seems to be trying to get everything out of as little money as possible, for example: the otherwise spacious tiger exhibit is bordered by iron structures that look at least 30 years old. Enclosures are enough big, but the fences looks tangled. The animals are in good condition, with the exception of rhesus monkeys. More interesting animals: Cherry-crowned mangabey, Milu, Turkmenian wild ass, Bharal, Bactrian red deer. There's a lot of domestic animals and I saw a plenty of Hungarian species, too. I couldn't take photos, because I left the camera at home. Otherwise Miskolc is the ugliest town I've ever seen.
That is not good! Mangalica pigs love outside runs and can´t / should not be kept indoors. Which is not practicable in asf infected areas. This might be bad for the whole breed. I love dry paprika sousages from Hungary from mangalica meat. Our country might get this virus soon, it is just few kilometers away behind Polish and German border. The last time we got it, all small private pig keepers around that area had to kill all pigs within 2 weeks as precaution and were prohibited to buy news ones. Zoo Zlín had to keep their warthog pigs permanently in closed house and they could not go out for like 2 years.
Three Lions arrived to the new Africa House from Sóstó. These are the first lions in Miskolc Zoo's history.
