One of the things I noted is that some animals are... Quite worryingly missing. For me the ones that stand out the most as missing are: - Birds in general! We need (in order of priority) > Penguins (Come onnn! That's a zoo ABC!) > Waterbirds in general > Raptors > Parrots > Hornbills and toucans - Marsupials. Come on, at least give us a macropod of sorts! - Otters and mongooses - Pinniped (No California sea lion in a zoo simulator game? Blasphemy!) - Large rodents (Capybara, beaver, porcupines...) - Arboreal primates (Spider monkeys, gibbons, Capuchins...) - Foxes and small cats - Giant anteater I'm sure that most of these and more will appear in future DLC, but still... No kangaroos at the very least? Anyway, a DLC I'd love to see would be one about flying animals, with a new aviary building feature and plenty of birds. Heck, even fruit bats!
Gibbons won't work because the creatures in game are set to spend most of their time on the ground, plus there aren't any brachiating mechanics. Capuchins will work though, maybe spider monkeys.
Gibbons were in ZT2: Endangered Species though. They spent most of their time on the ground, but they did brachiate on the monkey bars enrichment.
Gibbons often sit on the floor and walk along the floor in the real world zoos. I don't see why they don't introduce them, esp if they did one you can re skin for loads more. Thats why we have seen so many bears. Surprised we have not seen more deer species.
Can't they just create new models for brachiating and flying animals? Heck, having koalas would also be a really nice touch. If Prehistoric Kingdom will have a flying animals expansion, I can't see why Planet zoo should be any less. Good point about the deer there. I think the inclusion of the moose, Pere David's deer and/or muntjac would be really good addittions.
Sure they will do create new models but I am sure they will look at what ones they can re-use with different skins to maxmise the animals they can put in the game with the hard work being done once. Think of all the pigs you can have from the Warthogs? The baboons you could have from the mandrills, and also the howler or woollys from South America. Just a few examples where they could re-use the base model of an animal.
Yes, these are a good idea! I think a peccary species would be really cool, and a llama from a camel. There are literally NO large South American animals, and I think there should be more of them; howler monkeys, caimans, jaguar, rhea, giant anteater, maned wolf... All of these and more are perfectly possible! Also, Hamadryas or Gelada would be a really cool addition.
For South American animals, people are expecting paid DLC because of Zoo Tycoon for the Xbox's similar strategy, but one can’t be sure.
Sadly I don't have the game but I have made my own big animal wish list that I would love to see on Planet Zoo.
JigerofLemuria, here is a big list of mammals that I would like to see on the game. I haven't listed birds or reptiles yet. I hope you will enjoy reading my list.
That's quite the list! Also reminds me of how the only alpine animals are the snow leopard and Dall's sheep. More should be included! And of course, the fossa would be a huge asset too.
I’ve said this before on the main Planet Zoo forum, but we were all going to have to lower our expectations for the final roster; not every animal we want is going to be in the base game, some may not even make it to dlc. That being said, it's actually impressive how much of the iconic and charismatic zoo animals that have been left out. I think Frontier, in their push to make Planet Zoo a conservation-themed game and include certain themes in the base-game (African, Indian, Far Eastern Asian) left out a lot of animals that most of us would expect for a zoo base game. If Frontier really wanted to satisfy everyone, they should've enlarged the roster even more. I think 80 habitat and 50 exhibit animals would've been a good number as you could fit one of nearly every taxa regularly found in a zoo. My dream zoo game would have 100 habitat animal species alone, I figured since there are hundreds of Pokemon, we could have a zoo game with hundreds of animals, and that number allows you to include all of the expected animals while also giving room for rarities. To complete the game I would've included in the base game (not dlc) Another rhino (white and black ideally, but sumatran would be amazing) Another bovid (gaur, anoa, wisent, or yak) Another camelid (dromedary, guanaco, or vicuna) More antelope (impala, kudu, eland, lechwe, waterbuck, oryx, gerenuk, saiga, blackbuck, or nilgai) A deer species (moose, reindeer, wapiti, fallow deer, sika deer, red deer, water deer, or pere david's deer) A caperine species (bighorn sheep, mountain goat, markhor, ibex, chamois, aoudad, tahr, takin, goral, or japanese serow) Another pig or a peccary (babirusa, bearded pig, red river hog, warty pigs or chacoan, collared and white-lipped peccary) More big cats (jaguar, amur or african leopard, asiatic lion, or clouded leopard) A small cat species (serval, caracal, margay, jagurundi, ocelot, lynx, leopard cat, fishing cat, asian golden cat, palla's cat, or sand cat) Another bear (polar should've been in the base game, but spectacled, sun, or sloth would work; anything besdies himalayan brown) Another canid (dhole, maned wolf, bush dog, or any fox species) A mongoose species (meerkat, banded mongoose, yellow mongoose, or dwarf mongoose) An otter species (asian small-clawed, eurasian, north american river, or giant otter) A macropod species (red or grey kangaroo, or red-necked, swamp, agile, yellow-footed wallaby) A large rodent (capybara, crested/cape porcupine, patagonian mara, or beaver) More primates (gibbons, colobus, mangabeys, guenons, tamarins, howlers, spider monkeys, capuchins, sakis, squirrel monkeys, langurs, baboons, geladas, or more lemurs) Another non-primate areboreal animal (koala, binturong, tree-kangaroo, hyrax, coati, tamandua, tree porcupine, or indian giant squirrel) Another ratite (emu, rhea, or cassowary) A penguin species (emperor, king, gentoo, rockhopper, macaroni, or chinstrap for polar, and humboldt, african or little blue for tropical) More ground-dwelling birds (pelicans, swans, geese, cranes, storks, kori bustard, ground hornbill, secretary bird, guinea fowl, pheasant, shoebill, red-legged seriema, crested screamer, curassows, horned guan, maleo, or crowned pigeons) Another crocodilian (an alligator or caiman species, but a smaller crocodile like the dwarf, slender-snouted, or philippine croc would do)
Yep, this is pretty much what would have been expected for the standard game, and it's only a matter of time before at least some of these get released. Although I would add: Pinniped species (Most probably a sea lion, but a fur seal or true seal or even the walrus would be just as good. Ideal combo would be sea lion + true seal) Aquatic turtle. Why aren't there any, especially considering how endangered many of them are? At least give us an alligator snapper! Salamander. Might as well add a couple of them to complement the three frogs, just sayin'.
Your latter two choices are something that I've been thinking of since the games release: the exhibit animal roster is surprisingly small considering the amount of potential to them. I would've added a lot more lizards (chameleons, anoles, sailfin lizards, water dragons, caiman lizards, tegu, basilisks, geckos, and tree monitors for rainforest, and frilled lizard, bearded dragons, plated lizards, sungazers, chuckwallas, blue-tounged skink, flat lizards, and goannas) as those are the terrarium animals. I would have also included a greater variety of snakes (i'm shocked that there isn't a python or cobra species, or a colubrid represented), turtles or small tortoises, more amphibian variety such as toads, newts, or salamanders, and added some more insects that are less copy-and-pasted (a mantis or stick insect species is needed). By far my biggest change would be to give them all a moveset; even in the 2013 zt games snakes had animation loops, why not incorporate that into this game?
Can't you just create your own animals if you want to though? Jurassic World Evolution already has basic modding, with people creating their own dinosaur models, skins, and animations and then swapping dinosaurs in the game roster with their fan made ones, so wouldn't it be possible to do the same thing with Planet Zoo?
There already is modding, someone’s even already created a thylacine using it (image from reddit). https://i.redd.it/b4mlldu5sf141.jpg
I'm assuming we'll have a handful of species, especially Australian species, given to us through DLC. I get a little agitated with Planet Zoo's roster due to ZT2. Going from everything to nothing hurts.
