Visited the zoo today and have included some news below - A new chimp was born overnight to mum Zombi and was on exhibit today. - A baby zebra was born and is now about 10 days old.
Zombi did indeed have a baby girl on September the 8th. Baby news for our Chimpanzee troop - Monarto Zoo This is her third infant after: Zuri (F)- B 21/8/2019- Father was Sandali Enzi (M)- B 19/10/2019- Father was Sandali It will be interesting to see who is of Hope, and the newest infant. It would have to be either Sandali or Ttosi. I heard Ttosi was close to Hannah so my guess would be he is the father of Hope, and Sandali, the father to the newest infant.
Monarto Zoo has welcomed a giraffe calf to third-time mother, ‘Korongo’. This is Monarto Zoo’s 47th giraffe calf. Security Check
A few bits of major news from Monarto Zoo this morning that have been announced in the local newspaper. Firstly the name has been officially changed from Monarto Zoo to Monarto Safari Park and this name will be in use from today. Secondly construction will begin soon on the hotels, glamping etc. after a $40 million dollar private investment that has also included in the purchase of additional land.
‘Imani’ the 11-month old White Rhino calf has died. At this stage, the exact cause of death remains unknown (initial results indicate blood clotting). His mother, Umqali hasn’t had much luck in the past few years. Log into Facebook | Facebook
That’s really sad; especially following the loss of Umqali’s previous calf Tundu at 18 months. It’s interesting to note that Imani appears to have died due to blood clotting issues. Blood clotting is important in preventing blood loss following trauma; and Tundu died of trauma (including internal bleeding). I wonder if there was any link in the deaths as both calves were at an age where their mother would be conceiving again (and attracting interest from a bull that wouldn’t want a young calf in the way).
Some happier news from Monarto following the death of their rhino calf. A giraffe calf has been born to mother ‘Thula’. The calf was born yesterday. Security Check
A female giraffe, Eyelean, from Monarto will be moving to Sydney Zoo. When Eyelean arrives at her new home, she will be joined by another giraffe from a different zoo in Australia. Security Check
