There's a lot of species, especially herptiles, that are available in the private trade that aren't around in zoos. I've personally seen three species in the pet trade (only one of which I also saw at a zoo--Plzen) and I know there are at least three more around to varying degrees of rarity.

I'm still seeing wild-caught weaver finches at pet stores for less than $20, you know they're wild because even zebra finches run $40-$60 now

Several roadside zoos have been breeding the species.

The people who put out request on that site don't seem to know what's a reasonable ask. :p They won't get one.

I have recently seen a Bali Myna at my local bird store. It has been there for at least a year.

To add, I seem to see a fair number of coatis on the site listed as "mountain coati" - but the animals in the picture seem to look very much identical to the ring-tailed species...

Yes, lots of private (and even a few public) holders think their South American Coatis are Mountain Coatis - that's a very common error.

Not just south american, sometimes they're white-nosed. I get that at some point someone imported animals, called them the wrong thing, and buyers stuck with what they were told, but why have done of them bothered to realize they're wrong?! They're easy to tell apart.

I think "mountain coati" has just sort of become the pet trade name for regular coatis, annoyingly. Like how dormice are "micro squirrels" and marmosets are "finger monkeys".

Visited yesterday and can confirm they still have the Myna. The also have a Greater Vasa Parrot, a species rarely found in zoos.

Some Corsac foxes have been on a Dutch site that is commonly used to sell secondhand goods for quite some time. I also came across a pair of Australian water rats (Hydromys chrysogaster) and great white pelicans there.

Australian Water Rats/Rakali are being bred in at least one U.K. private collection
