I am moving house in two weeks and heard that when cats are let off in a new environment they run away from the house as they dont know where they are. Is this true and is there any way i can avoid this.:)

They can run away, but its not a problem that I have ever had when moving. But when I have moved the cats have always been given atleast,2 or 3 weeks to settle and get used to the new house, before letting them outside and then they have been let out briefly to let them get used to new outside area slowly,in as controlled a way is possible with a species that just likes to bugger off away from humans!

An old adage was to put Butter on their paws. They would spend so much time licking it off they forget they are in a new place and settle in quicker. I don't know if it works or whether maybe that would even be regarded as cruel in these days, I don't know....;)
